Michael was born in Detroit, Michigan and is the youngest of six. He paid his own way through college by working for the Ford Motor Company as both an hourly and salaried employee. Michael was also active in student politics during college and was elected to the Student Faculty Council for two successive years.
After graduating from Monteith College in 1979, he attended New York Law School where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1982. Rather than move back to Detroit after graduating from law school, Michael and his wife, Sharon, decided to remain in New York.
Shortly after being admitted as an attorney, Michael became heavily involved in a breach of contract action against the pop star Madonna. After a brief stint as a principal in an artist management firm, Michael resumed his career as a litigator. He has had a number of successful cases against large multi-national corporations and has obtained a judgement in excess of two million dollars on behalf of client who was defrauded in a land scheme originating in Texas.
Michael is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, one of the most prestigious groups of trial lawyers in the United States. Membership is limited to attorneys who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements. Fewer than 1% of U.S. lawyers are members. He is also a member of the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American Bar Association and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. Michael has earned a diploma in Trial Advocacy Skills from the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
Michael has successfully argued appeals before the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals, the Court of Appeals of the State of New York and the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court. He has made several appearances on Court TV and his cases have been publicized in the New York Law Journal, New York Post and the Jury Verdict Reporter.>
